NASM, ACE, ACSM or NSCA: how to choose and compare a personal trainer question bank
Choose a personal trainer question bank by certification first, then compare price. NASM, ACE, ACSM and NSCA each test their own content outline, so a bank built for one is not a full substitute for another, however many questions it has. Once you know which exam you are taking, compare the total price, the access period and whether you can try a free sample. CPT Compass is a low-cost option that covers all four (500 questions each, $9.99 for 90 days), and each certification has a free 30-question check you can try before paying.
CPT Compass publishes this guide. Prices for other study products change often and vary by package, so we link to each provider rather than quote figures we could not confirm.
Start from your certification
| Certification | Official starting point | CPT Compass bank / free check |
|---|---|---|
| NASM | NASM CPT | 500 / 30 |
| ACE | ACE official practice test | 500 / 30 |
| ACSM | ACSM Certified Personal Trainer | 500 / 30 |
| NSCA | NSCA-CPT | 500 / 30 |
Each certifying body's own page is the place for exam format, eligibility and current fees. ACE also sells its own practice test, which is the closest you can get to ACE-written questions.
How to compare prices fairly
- Compare the full amount for the time you need. A cheap monthly plan can cost more than a longer one once you renew.
- Separate the products. A course package, an official practice test and a question bank are different purchases; keep their labels when you compare.
- Count questions for your certification only. A multi-certification bank's total is not the number for your exam.
- Translations do not add questions. The same question in another language is still one question.
- Check what is not included. Registration for the exam itself is almost always separate.
